Health Canada has approved TLANDO, Lipocine’s oral testosterone undecanoate capsule, for testosterone replacement therapy in adult men with hypogonadism. The 7 October 2026 approval opens a second market for a drug that needed three FDA Complete Response Letters and six years before winning its original U.S. approval in 2022 — and it belongs not to Lipocine directly but to Verity Pharmaceuticals, the specialty pharma company that licensed TLANDO's U.S. and Canadian rights in January 2024 and is now preparing a Canadian launch by the end of 2026.

What Health Canada actually approved
According to the 7 October 2026 announcement, Health Canada cleared TLANDO capsules for testosterone replacement therapy in adult men with hypogonadism. The approval covers the original TLANDO formulation only — not TLANDO XR, the once-daily candidate still in development, though Verity holds Canadian rights to that product too under the same license. Lipocine is not the company that will sell TLANDO in Canada: that role belongs to Verity Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical company that has held exclusive U.S. and Canadian commercialization rights to the TLANDO franchise since a January 2024 license agreement.
“Men with low testosterone in Canada have been served largely by injections and topical gels, and Health Canada’s approval of TLANDO means they will have access to a convenient oral option without needing dose titration. This approval represents an important step in expanding the geographic reach of TLANDO.” Dr. Mahesh Patel, President and CEO, Lipocine — 7 October 2026 announcement
Verity's chief medical officer, Dr. Neil Flesher, framed the approval around how testosterone therapy gets started: “Health Canada’s approval of TLANDO gives Canadian men with hypogonadism and their physicians a new oral treatment option with a simple, fixed dosing regimen that does not require dose titration,” he said in the same release. “Starting and managing testosterone therapy can be complicated for both patients and prescribers, and a fixed dose can make treatment easier to start.”

Why oral testosterone usually fails, and how TLANDO doesn't
Oral testosterone has a long history of disappointing results. Testosterone undecanoate, the ester TLANDO uses, is highly lipophilic — lipophilic enough that it associates with dietary fat in the gut and is absorbed through the intestinal lymphatic system rather than the portal vein, largely sidestepping the first-pass liver metabolism that made earlier oral androgens like methyltestosterone a liver-toxicity risk. Lipocine's own contribution is Lip’ral, a patented lipidic-composition platform the company describes as improving the solubilization and absorption of poorly soluble drugs independent of food, pH and dilution — the delivery engineering that TLANDO's capsule relies on.
What the Canadian approval changes, and what it doesn't
A proven U.S. record, not a new drug
TLANDO has been on the U.S. market since March 2022 after three Complete Response Letters; Health Canada's review had years of real-world U.S. use to draw on, not a first-in-human profile.
Fixed dosing is the clinical pitch
Canadian men with low testosterone have relied mainly on injections and topical gels, both of which typically need dose adjustment; TLANDO's label uses a fixed starting dose with no titration step.
A licensee, not Lipocine, runs the launch
Verity Pharmaceuticals holds exclusive U.S. and Canadian rights and will handle the Canadian commercial launch; Lipocine's upside is upfront cash, milestones and royalties, not direct sales.
The market TLANDO licensed away
Lipocine's own figures put the Canadian testosterone-replacement opportunity at more than 700,000 prescriptions written annually, roughly half of them covered by private insurance — a market currently dominated by injectable and topical forms rather than oral capsules. The global testosterone-replacement therapy market is itself a multi-hundred-million-dollar category with published growth forecasts into the next decade, though estimates vary considerably by publisher depending on scope.

Regulatory News outlook
We expect oral, non-titrated options like TLANDO to grow faster than the injectable and topical forms that dominate the category today, as prescribers and patients weigh convenience against the category's historical caution around oral testosterone's liver-safety reputation.
How we got here: GlobalInfoResearch's $0.90 billion 2025 base compounded at its own 5.76% guided CAGR reaches roughly $1.19 billion by 2030; we assign no specific share of that total to TLANDO or to Canada alone, since neither company has disclosed a launch volume target.

What a Canadian launch still needs
An approval is not a launch. Verity Pharmaceuticals has not disclosed Canadian pricing, reimbursement status, or a specific launch date beyond “by the end of 2026,” and the companies have not said how TLANDO will be positioned against the injectables and gels that currently treat the bulk of Canada's diagnosed hypogonadism. For Lipocine, the more immediate significance is financial rather than clinical: the Canadian approval triggers a milestone payment under the 2024 license and validates a licensing model built on royalties rather than direct commercialization — the same model it would need TLANDO XR, still in development, to eventually clear.
- Approval scope: original TLANDO only, for testosterone replacement therapy in adult male hypogonadism; TLANDO XR remains in development.
- Commercial path: Verity Pharmaceuticals holds exclusive U.S. and Canadian rights and will run the Canadian launch, targeted by the end of 2026.
- Financial terms: Lipocine's January 2024 license carries an $11 million upfront fee, up to $259 million in milestones, and 12–18% royalties on net sales.
- Unresolved: no disclosed Canadian price, reimbursement status or specific launch date within the fourth quarter.

Frequently asked questions
What is TLANDO?
An oral capsule form of testosterone undecanoate, approved for testosterone replacement therapy in adult men with hypogonadism. It uses Lipocine's Lip'ral lipidic-delivery technology and is dosed at a fixed starting level that does not require titration, unlike several other oral testosterone products.
Is this TLANDO's first regulatory approval?
No. TLANDO was already approved in the United States on 28 March 2022, after three Complete Response Letters dating back to 2016. The 7 October 2026 decision is a new-country authorization: Health Canada's approval for the Canadian market.
Who will sell TLANDO in Canada?
Verity Pharmaceuticals, which holds exclusive U.S. and Canadian commercialization rights to the TLANDO franchise under a January 2024 license agreement with Lipocine. Verity is planning a Canadian commercial launch by the end of 2026.
What does Lipocine get from the deal?
Under the 2024 license agreement, Lipocine received an $11 million upfront fee, is eligible for up to $259 million in additional development and sales milestones, and earns royalties of 12% to 18% on net sales of TLANDO franchise products.
